Senior Sunrise
Back-to-school started before dawn for the graduating class of Mounds, Oklahoma. Much of the senior class gathered early this morning to start this last chapter of their high school career with a collective sunrise. Signs and art-worked attire set the scene as they celebrated the start of their last year together.
It was still dark when they arrived and made their way on to the new football field. With donuts in tow, they began to welcome each other, take photos and share the excitement of what the future holds. I am not sure when this tradition started, but it seemed like a meaningful way to start the school year.
Small towns have a way of getting inside of you. It was 30 years ago this month that I walked in their foot steps on this very campus. Many of the relationships of that time have faded over the years. However, the sense of belonging and camaraderie that such a small class fosters tends to shape who you are for the rest of your life.
Here’s to you, Class of 2026. Go forth and and succeed.
Thanks for the invite to join you for this Senior Sunrise.
