Smokin Sounds Podcast

It was a mild, slightly humid Sunday afternoon in the Car-Hole Lounge when I caught up with the fantastic folks of the Smokin Sounds Podcast, where smoke intertwines with sound. Smokin Sounds, the brain child of Shawn Jones, is a podcast for cigar and pipe enthusiasts that features a backdrop soundtrack handcrafted for each episode. The show is hosted by Shawn and friend Justin Eagle, Shawn’s “brother from another mother.” The two attended broadcasting school together in the late 90’s. Joining together in 2023, they brought to reality what is now the weekly release of the Smokin Sounds Podcast.

Smokin Sounds is currently being downloaded in all 50 states and has spread to several countries around the world. The UK and Australia have taken a particularly strong liking to the show, as they represent the countries with the larger audiences. The show has even reached the number one listened to podcast in Guam. The audience, still growing, has gained much momentum in a relatively short time.
Shawn and Justin have recently been joined by Paige Turner, adding another layer to the discussion. These three pride themselves in the authenticity of conversation. There are no scripts. No hidden agenda. Other than, of course, enjoying good smokes and solid sounds.

Their guests have ranged from family, friends, bands and more. The particular episode that I got to experience was with Michael Pounds, a local pastor who enjoys cigars. This episode, entitled “Holy Smokes” explored the relationship between the religious perspective on smoking and being a minister who smokes the occasional cigar. Michael, who is also a school teacher and serves as the mayor of his home town, spoke openly and candidly about his different roles. The conversation flowed smoothly as hosts and guest discussed sincere topics and shared in some good laughs.
